How does the CleanCar device work? In more detail…

The CleanCar device is an incredibly smart piece of kit, but for this FAQ, we will keep it simple.

  • The CleanCar device has been designed to record GPS coordinates of your location while you are driving.
  • It will do this every 10 seconds or 100 metres or 25-degree change in direction so on a winding road it takes more coordinates and on a straight one less.
  • The device saves these coordinates and every few minutes it connects to the mobile network via an onboard sim and uploads these to the CleanCar portal. It will store around ten days of driving if for any reason there is no signal.
  • Once we receive the data, we store it up, and while most people are asleep in the early morning, our servers and algorithms convert it into journeys and statistics.
  • The following day you will be able to log in see your stats.
  • CleanCar aims to help users like you to make the switch from your internal combustion engine to an electric vehicle

WANTING TO COME ACROSS A CHARGING STATION ON YOUR JOURNEY?

WANTING TO COME ACROSS A CHARGING STATION ON YOUR JOURNEY?

WANTING TO COME ACROSS A CHARGING STATION ON YOUR JOURNEY?

Wanting to find a charging station but where do you start?

CleanCar totally understand’s the daunting feeling that you may be experiencing. The daunting feeling that occurs when you need to find a charging point. Planning is required before each journey. This will prevent EV drivers ending up in a situation, where they run out of battery.  There are many apps that can show drivers local charging points etc. in the area. Finding charging points on the map before the journey, will help drivers become more aware of their surroundings in different areas. The driver will also gain more confidence in driving to destinations, knowing where the nearest charging point is along the way.

Majority of drivers assume charging points will be at petrol/diesel fuelling stations. That is wrong. Unfortunately not every fuel station has a charging point. Planning your journey is the way forward to ensuring you are going to have enough battery to make it to a local charging station without running out. Having an idea on knowing how far your vehicle can go without running out of battery is great. It is something you will soon be used too.

So, where you are going to charge next?

Like I mentioned before. This is why you need to plan… It is the only way you will be able to balance your journey out and get the most range out of your vehicle.

Planning your journey isn’t hard or time consuming at all …

Doing research as I have mentioned before and understanding your vehicle’s range will help you evaluate how you work out when you need to charge vehicle next.  Also, whilst doing this you will need to allow yourself a few more miles in the battery, just in case ‘plan A’ doesn’t workout you can always go to plan B. However, you will soon get used to when your vehicle needs charging.

Planning your journey is beneficial for you. If you travel alone as you should already have planned what charging point’s you are going to be using along the way and how long it will take etc. The reason we say this is, incase the charging points you originally wanted to use in ‘plan A’ were not working etc. You always have a back up plan. i.e ‘Plan B’. This is to ensure you have enough time to get to your destination whilst having to skip to ‘Plan B’.

Look at it like an EV adventure. All EV drivers do it. It adapt’s to your lifestyle of driving. It just takes a little time. For some driver’s they get the hang of the range very quickly, some don’t. Once your used to your vehicle, drivers find it much easier and convenient as they are able to stop during a journey for a charge. This give themselves a break whilst the vehicle is charging. They go grab a coffee; chat to a few clients and send a few emails to their team. It’s not as bad as you think. It’s beneficial to the environment and yourself.

Never Feel Alone…

Never feel you are alone when you are a EV driver. There are now recovery companies that  are trained to work with electric vehicle’s. The roadside recovery companies will ensure that if you run out of battery they will tow you to the nearest charging station.  You may use them once and learn how far your vehicle can go. You may never have to use them but it’s great to know they are there. Knowing that there is a Plan Z makes you feel much better as an EV driver. When you purchase an electric vehicle, getting the right recovery company is a priority. Certainly something to be looking into.

Being recovered may not be the quickest or convenient experience to have but it’s their if you judge your range incorrectly. A recovery company is there for reassurance if you have ran out of battery after going for plan A and then plan B.  You will also get used to knowing the areas you are driving to and from and where charging points are going to be. Soon enough, there will not be any planning before each journey because you would have adapted to the EV lifestyle.

Now, does this sound reassuring? I hope it does. Now, do you want to make the EV switch if it will be beneficial to you? Then, why not try CleanCar out… We show you the benefits and cost savings of making the EV switch. Also, if you are not going to benefit from a Electric Vehicle then we will tell you.

Saving you time and money.

Wanting to be a EV owner?

Wanting to be a EV owner?

Wanting to be EV owners?

By Alice Wilson Digital Marketing Assistant

Are you wanting to make the electric vehicle switch but unsure on a few questions? How about reading this blog and your questions may be answered within it. If you would like any questions answered that are not answered in this blog please e-mail us at info@cleancar.io.

Making the switch from fuelling to electric is the biggest transition that will happen within the EV switch. But… There are questions that still aren’t being answered to guide you in making the switch.

How can I get to meetings miles away?

When I have meetings, will my vehicle last my whole journey or will I have to re-charge half way through? If you were to go on a journey in your diesel/petrol vehicle you would know whether you need to fill up, unfortunately we are used to these vehicles. There is no big change other than, the vehicle needs power not fuel. However, with Diesel/petrol vehicles you rush when you are fuelling your vehicle up. There is no chance to look at phone, call contacts, or respond to emails.

Whereas, making the EV switch you can take a break whilst your vehicle is charging, respond to emails, make urgent calls. Also, socialising with other EV drivers whilst learning more things about your EV.  Yes, sometimes Electric Public charging points are busy but it’s only like waiting at a petrol station for someone to finish at the pump.

Planning your journey –

Planning your journey beforehand is the best option, we recommend you do this. There are many apps that will help you with planning. Finding your closest charging points on the way to your destination will save a lot of time. Not every petrol station and car park have charging points. So, please be aware.

Majority of places have a minimum of 1 on the site. If it’s being used, what are you going to do? You have 30 miles left… You should prepare for back-up plans. Plan B – Find the other charging point in the area you have enough battery to get to. Always allow more time when you set off for your journey with a full battery so, if you are expected to find another charging point you will have enough time and battery to do this.

How long will my vehicle range last? –

Like we have said before. Having an electric vehicle is similar to having a petrol/diesel the difference is you charge and have no-emissions from electric. BUT, looking at the bigger picture… the pedals, steering wheel and everything else in the vehicle is updated but the same inside. Just powered… not fuelled.

Changed your mind yet? As well as everything else, there will be F – E (Full to Empty) for the battery. Seeing how many miles you have left as well as a battery, the battery may not last as long as a full tank in your fuelled vehicle but you will soon get used to it. It just takes a little bit of time. The sooner you start to look more into the range of your new vehicle and start to drive one the better!

Charging my vehicle through the night, will it last?

Charging your vehicle through the night is the fast and efficient way to know that you will be sleeping whilst your vehicle is charging to ready for you in the morning before your journey ahead. What do you do? Well, when you get home from work or an event on the evening just pop it on charge and leave it overnight to charge away if you have a home charging point. A home charging point is the best thing to buy in this case. You can charge your vehicle when you feel like it and you know that it’s available to use instead of waiting or thinking about public charging points. See, charging your vehicle in the comfort of your driveway. Safe and sound.

Can you get a bigger battery for your vehicle to last longer on journeys? There will not be any need for this. The reason why is that you will soon be getting used to your EV battery you have by now. As soon as you change it again it will be starting all over again. Understanding the range and trying to do as many miles as you can out of it will start to become a challenge and a challenge that may surprise how far your EV actually goes without a charge.

So, instead of purchasing a bigger battery which could be wasting your money why not charge your vehicle more frequently at home or at work. More easy and convenient for yourself. There are all types of vehicles with different range capacity and you choose the vehicle that would suit your needs or why not find out if you would save money by making the EV switch?

Wanting to make the EV switch but unsure if it will beneficial for you? Why not use the risk-free system – The CleanCar system. We can show you the true benefits of making the EV switch. If a electric vehicle will not be suitable for you we will tell you. We can also show what specific electric vehicle’s would be beneficial for you. What do you think? Call our team, we can have a chat and let you know…

Having an Electric Fleet…

Having an Electric Fleet…

Having an Electric Fleet –

Alice Wilson – Digital Marketing Assistant

Are you a Fleet Manager or employee that is in control of a fleet and wants to switch to EV? Take a read of this blog, it will be worth your while…

Having an Electric Fleet is what all fleet managers consider. However, the time it takes to look more into making the switch is very time consuming. Also, the costs of converting to EV is the worrying and daunting part, as you want it to be correct. It all comes down to the fear of the unknown, who knows if it will be beneficial to make the EV switch… You, myself an fleet managers would never be able to work out which electric vehicles would suit each driver you have. But… We have something that will. The CleanCar System. Choosing CleanCar saves you time and shows you the true benefits of making the switch to electric vehicles for each of your drivers etc. see, all done for you.

What if –

What if the CleanCar system told you, changing your fleet to an Electric Fleet could save you money and in fact keep your air cleaner for your environment. Would you change your mind or even consider making the EV switch?

I thought you might…

Having a small or large fleet doesn’t mean your drivers will suit the same electric vehicles. All of your drivers daily journey’s are different. Having the risk-free CleanCar system guide you to your EV decision is great. Once you have made the decision you will have all the information to back your decision up and reassure you for whatever that may be. For Example; Half of your fleet could be doing 100’s miles a day up and down the country. Whereas your other drivers might only drive 20 miles per day. So, the same vehicle’s would not benefit all of your drivers. CleanCar decides what vehicle’s would benefit your drivers personally in their own personal account.

A lot of fleet managers are apprehensive about making that leap to an Electric Fleet. Which is understandable, as it’s their responsibility and making the right decision counts as no money wants to be wasted. The decision for EV has to be 100% correct. Having data and information to prove to your Managing Director that the business will save money from the EV switch is what you want. This really does back your case up and it also shows that you have a understanding of how you are going to save the business money etc.

Considering a Electric fleet…

Having an Electric Fleet is exciting… Something new. Especially seeing all those EV’s out in the office car park. Smart looking and money saving…  How will they get in to meetings on time with the range that EV’s have? Majority of users will have charging points at home, so vehicles are guaranteed a charge throughout the night. Although, there should also be charging points at the office carpark. However, all trips drivers make should be planned ahead. So, it isn’t as worrying as you think…

Majority of drivers become worried due to range anxiety. Something that you wouldn’t be able to change it would have to be overcome in time.  It is just the initial thought of thinking you are going to be running out of battery and the range you have in your vehicle isn’t enough. Whereas it has been proven your vehicle is suitable for your jounreys so no need to panic. Think ahead. Planning your journey’s can help you feel more comfortable knowing you have to stop along the way to charge an knowing where to stop, but always keep a back up plan. Have another charging point to hand if the original one you planned to use is not working or busy etc. Honestly, there is nothing to worry about. There are so many charging points around the country and at service stations and cities as the country is really adapting to Electric Vehicles it’s great.

Recovery cover for your EV fleet –

Another thing you are probably are thinking about is recovery. Are my drivers going to be looked after if the vehicle breaks down or runs out of charge? There is no need to worry regarding this. Your drivers will be treated the same as any other driver who drives a diesel/petrol. How will they know how to fix an Electric Vehicle?

You ask, well… A lot of recovery companies have trained their employees to be prepared as they are adapting to the future as there are a lot EV’s on the road already.

There are recovery companies that will tow you to the nearest charging station if you have ran out of battery, so you don’t just contact your recovery company when you have just “broken down”. This is to ensure that you your recovery service keeps you safe. There are a lot of companies that are now supporting Electric Fleets. If you have actually broken down they will try to sort the issue out or tow you to a garage, home. Depending on your policy with the recovery company.

Knowing that a vehicle you drive everyday is making you overspend is mind blowing…

It is mind blowing especially knowing the amount of money you could be saving on other things. If you saw the amount of money the business would save from the EV switch, well… you would switch tomorrow! Let CleanCar tell you. Not every business is benefited by switching to EV. That’s why we allow CleanCar to inform you on what vehicles would suit your daily journey’s best. On the other hand, it could tell you would not benefit from making the EV switch.

Switching your Fleet to an Electric Fleet is a BIG jump in the business but knowing the benefits of electric vehicles and knowing how the electric vehicle technology is growing and expanding it is such an advantage to you and the business. Improving your knowledge on electric vehicles; charging points, solar panels it’s all to still to learn…

Now, finding out if your drivers are doing the amount of miles that would be suitable for a EV is possible. The CleanCar system shows what vehicles are beneficial for individual drivers by a capture of journeys from the CleanCar device an a click of a button. All journeys are stored in the drivers own personal accounts that are set up by the system, this is when the system will show what EV’s will be beneficial for the driver.

How can you measure this by their journeys?

Here is a brief explanation of the CleanCar system. A CleanCar Device that goes into 12V of the vehicle. CleanCar’s device would then record all journeys that have been driven. You will choose how long you use the CleanCar system for. The more time you use the CleanCar system the more data you will have and can reflect on. The CleanCar data will then be stored in your own personal account. After using the CleanCar device you will then be able to review your own data and view what vehicles will be beneficial for you in your account.

Switching EV in 300 words…

Switching EV in 300 words…

Switching EV…

“CleanCar is a system that “Makes it Easy to Switch to Electric Vehicles.

Many fleets today understand the benefits of adopting electric vehicles but are currently on the fence and are unable to make the decision to switch.

They usually have unanswered questions including:

  • Are EV’s suitable for our requirements?
  • Which vehicles are best suited to our needs?
  • Will we save any money by making the switch?
  • What kind of chargers do we need, how many do we need and where should we install them

Without answers to these questions, the decision to switch is risky, and understandably fleets are hesitant.

CleanCar addresses the risk for fleet decision makers by answering all of the questions above.

The CleanCar system is simple to explain; we take a small self-fit GPS device that a driver plugs into the 12v cigarette lighter of their vehicle and they drive about as usual.  The journey patterns are then automatically uploaded to our CleanCar portal.

The driver and fleet manager can then log in to the system and see the following:

  1. Is a driver suited to an EV, i.e. based on the usage of their current vehicle, could switching to an EV be practical.
  2. Which EV is best suited to a drivers needs.
  3. Would an EV be a cost-effective alternative to an equivalent diesel or petrol, we measure Whole Life Cost of both vehicle sot make a comparison.
  4. If a fleet is going to switch some vehicles, how many charge points do they need and where should they locate them (we can see where vehicle are parked and where they dwell)

The CleanCar system can be implemented in as little as 24 hours and within a month will give a fleet a full understanding of its EV transition options.

If you would like to contact us please call 0845 600 6880 or e-mail us at info@cleancar.io”

Switching EV is the way forward.

Electric Vehicle Data Service to Broaden Reach

Electric Vehicle Data Service to Broaden Reach

“Electric Vehicle Data Service to Broaden Reach”

The content in the “BusinessCar” Magazine – “Jack Carfrae reports” –

CleanCar are proud to announce we are in the BuisnessCar Magazine. Please take a read of the article. This article tells you all about the “app-based version of its CleanCar service”.

“Electric Vehicle Data Service to Broaden Reach”

To read the report from Jack Carfrae, please either click on the link above or read the whole article below. To visit the official magazine page please click here.

“Fleetinnovations has launched an app-based version of its Cleancar service that tells busineses whether or not they can feasibly switch to electric vehicles.”

“Fleet Innovations have converted its CleanCar system to an app format to roll it out to a wider number of customers.

The company specialises in establishing whether or not businesses could realistically swap existing internal combustion vehicles for plug-in equivalents by tracking data gleaned from dongles inserted into the vehicles’ 12-volt sockets. The practice typically involves collecting around a month’s worth of telematics-style information about typical cycles, which is then scrutinised to ascertain if vehicle’s normal usage is such that it could be swapped for an electric version without hindrance tot he operation and determine if the exchange would generate a financial saving.

Launched this month, the app version is said to offer exactly the same data and results, and will be distributed in conjunction with partner firms such as energy suppliers and dealer groups looking to promote electric vehicles (EVs) and clean energy initiatives.

Speaking to BusinessCar, CEO Alex Baker explained that moving to a digital format would allow the service to reach a broader audience. “If somebody’s got 300 vehicles, all we do is send out 300 dongles to the company and away you go” he said.”Bringing on 300 users with dongles is easy at the moment; bringing on 10,000 users really isn’t. We’ve spent a lot of time rebuilding it so that if, for arguments sake, a major energy company wanted to offer it to 100,000 users then this system will support that. It’s designed to to be rolled out to large numbers of users very quickly”

He said CleanCar’s fundamental practice of data gathering would not differ with the new platform, but added that while the app would render the service available to a larger group, it would only offer data gathering and results, and would not include subsequent analytical and consultancy work previously offered to fleet customers. “With the dongle, once the journeys are tracked, they’re sent via a sim card to our portal.” he added. “We normally collect about a month’s worth of data, and we’re ten able to say ‘One, are you suitable for an electric vehicle? Two, which electric vehicles are best suited? And three, will you actually save any money by making the switch from petrol/diesel to an electric vehicle?’

“In terms of the difference between using an app and a dongle, the data we collect is the same. I supposed it’s the 80/20 rule, where 80% of the process is the same for everybody but, previously, there’s been quite a lot of bespoking, specific to fleets, whereas the plan for the app is to get it our there and keep building on it.”

The app will primarily be offered as a white label product, allowing partner companies to market it under their own name and with additional feature specific to the organisations. “Our ideal partners for this would be energy companies, vehicle motor manufacturers, finance companies, dealer groups – basically anybody that’s selling vehicles, charge points, energy or anything like that – and would benefit from people driving electric vehicles,” Said Baker.”We could have a dealer group version, for example, and we’d have the capability to build in that dealer group’s pricing, special deals and things like that. There’d be a bit of development work required for that sort of thing, but we could absolutely do it.”

He added that one large business has already signed up to the launch its own, labelled version and that the app have been well received by other blue chip firms canvassed by the company. “what we didn’t realised is that, when we went out and started speaking to potential partners, just how positive those conversations would be.”

Baker said the app would also be available via conventional online channels such as the Apple app store and Google Play as a free download, but users would be charged an as-yet undisclosed fee in order to progress with the service, as the firm’s primary objective was to market the app via large partner businesses. All versions will, however, be continuously updated based on customer feedback and additional but currently unspecified features are due to be added over time.

The company has previously worked with fleets including aerospace company BAE, which it assisted in the procurement of 60 Nissan e-NV200 electric vans and the installation of 26 charging points at its Portsmouth naval base site.”
